Is Delaware easy to homeschool in?
According to the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), Delaware has been considered relatively homeschool-friendly, with homeschooling being legal and regulated by the Delaware Department of Education. Delaware's homeschooling laws offer three options, all without teacher qualifications or standardized testing requirements. In the first option, known as Single-Family Homeschooling, parents or legal guardians primarily educate their child at home. To comply, they must report enrollment by October 5 and attendance by July 31 each year through the Delaware Department of Education website. The second option, Multi-Family Homeschooling, involves coordinating with multiple families, appointing a liaison to the Department of Education, and adhering to the same reporting deadlines. The third option is Single-Family Homeschooling Coordinated with the Local School District. To pursue this, parents need written approval from the superintendent, teach the same subjects as public schools, and report enrollment and attendance using the Department of Delaware website by the specified deadlines. However, it is important for homeschooling families to familiarize themselves with the specific laws and regulations in Delaware, as well as any local district policies that may apply. Staying informed and connected with homeschooling support groups and organizations can also be beneficial for networking and accessing resources.
